Macrons enabled but not saving

Hello, I have enabled the macron plugin for the editor in 2.4.5
The plugin works to insert the char in the field, but is scrubbed and replaced with the comparable non-macron character upon save.The really frustrating bit is that the same plugin works very happily in a 2.4 installation.
Any ideas why this is occurring?
