Can I use SilverStripe to provide social groups and which plugin's are available for this.

I am a instructor and wish to set up a number of groups on my SilverStripe website so that each class that I teach can have access to their own articles. They will contribute articles and I will contribute and edit articles. The groups must not be accessible by just any member of the site but must ask for permission to join a group and then can be granted access. Some articles will be made public to all members and some maybe available publicly from the site.

What plugin's would be most suitable for this application?

The Security functions out of the box should be able to do this for you Stephen.

If you log into the CMS admin and click the Security Tab you can create any number of "groups" called anything you like you can then add any members you like to any of the groups.

Once you have done that you can then go to your page tree, select a page you wish to only be viewed by a member in one of your groups, select the "access" tab of that page. Under the "Who can view this page?" section you can then select "Only these people (choose from list)" which will give you a drop down check box containing all the groups you set up earlier.

Select the group/s you want to only be able to see this page... save and publish the page... and your done!
