events detail readmore problem

i have problem that readmore when i create a own event manager, when admin insert event name, date, and details then publish. all events display good but detail page have 1 or 2 page content then i wants to show only 200 char so create a problem here we not use substr() and Please suggest me...., how to solve problem..
