Using DOM and/or ImageDataObjectManager in a widget

Apologies if this has been asked before. Tried searching forums but search parameters seem pretty limited.
Can DOM and/or ImageDataObjectManager be used as a widget field? Using SS 2.4.1, DOM r414 and SWFU r401. If so, are parameters any different for the testimonials example?
