Is it possible to require a field when updating or adding to a complex tablefield or dataobjectoperator

Is it possible to require a field when updating or adding to a complex tablefield or dataobjectoperator?
The question is in the title but I would really like to know if this is something basic I have missed. I can see why you don't need it on pages but for complex fields not having a required options means people can keep adding junk without even thinking about it. It is really necessary and as far as I can see is a bug unless there is some way to do it that I am missing.
Help much appreciated.

I've been wondering about this myself but haven't had the chance to go looking for a solution yet.

You can't use required field in DOM popups at this point due to JS conflicts. It won't be possible until Silverstripe migrates their JS framework over to JQuery in 2.4.
