Replace image in Files & Images

My client is using the "files & images" bulk-upload feature of SS extensively to upload images and attaches them to pages via DataObjectManager later.
Now he wants to replace an image with a new version and naturally expects it to show up on all pages using this image. The problem is that it is not possible to replace an image in the "files & images" section of SS. i even tried it via ftp but i do not have the permissions.
has anyone had the same problem and found a solution to this?

There has never been a solution for this. I actually asked a Silverstripe developer directly, and he confirmed that the only way to do this is to delete and re-upload.

Thanks for the quick response UncleCheese, even though i do not like the answer .-(
to make things worse, after deleting and re-uploading it keeps the old _resampled-thumbnail in the backend confusing everybody even more..
has this issue been filed as a bug anywhere yet?
