Can the E-commerce (or any eshop module) be used to create a user based marketplace. eg: etsy or artfire?

Where each user (of a certain usertype) has a 'shop' related to their user account.
Where they can list and manage their sale items?
Ideally I would like to be able to develop with V3 as well.. but not a strict requirement.

Cheers

I am also interested in such functionality.
Did you find something that matched you requirements or did you manage to create such a marketplace system / module?

Would be great to hear from you!

I don't think this is a focus for any of the commerce modules available (but I could be wrong).
It is probably posible, but not without a lot of extra input and customisation from the developer.

Yes, but maybe someone built such a marketplace like shopping system / module for silverstripe and could share or sell it.
That is what I'm interested in... ;-)

Yes, and the answer I gave was 'No, no such system exists.' :)

OK, then I need to build this on my own ;-)

Yep, that was the second part of my answer.

You could probably use an existing commerce moudle (shop or swipestripe) as a base is what I was trying to say. Then you wouldn't have to re-invent the wheel for the actual sales part at least.
The rest I imagine can probably be achieved through a number of extensions, query modifications, and permission checks.

I'd suggest looking at a combination of one of the three commerce modules and the Subsites module (probably also coupled with this one: https://github.com/adrexia/silverstripe-subsite-modeladmins). I don't think any of them integrate with Subsites natively, but I'm sure PR's would be welcome.

Beyond that you'd be looking at building out the signup and marketing infrastructure around that, along with some details like reporting and revenue sharing.
