SilverStripe open source tools are shared under the BSD license, this means you are welcome to set up a business based on these tools and sell your expertise and code. SilverStripe Ltd owns and oversees the trademarks for the SilverStripe name and logo.
To ensure that this brand is protected the following guide outlines correct use with these goals in mind:

  1. We want to encourage and help community members to spread and improve SilverStripe open source software
  2. Allow SilverStripe to become a strong, cohesive international brand by helping internal and external communication be presented in a unified way
  3. We want to make it clear how SilverStripe-related businesses can and can not use the name and logo
  4. We want to protect the SilverStripe brand by preventing misuse and confusion for those seeking out official SilverStripe resources

Some people are then seeking to develop an obvious connection between their business/event and the SilverStripe brand. That is understandable and SilverStripe supports this effort, as long as users adhere to a couple of golden rules:

  1. You may not use the word ‘SilverStripe’ in your business/event/domain name. ‘SilverStripe’ is a trademark and as such is protected from the use of others.
  2. The same goes for the logo. If you create a logo for your business/event, please stay away from the look and feel of the SilverStripe logo and brand, or part thereof.

The SilverStripe Logo

The logo is an established device. Wherever possible the spirit of these guidelines should be adhered to. There should be sufficient clear space around the logo. The logo should not be redrawn and may only be originated from electronic artwork downloaded from this page.

For mono colour material then 100% strength of the colour is used e.g. if the production is black then 100% black. “Create the web” is the official tagline of both SilverStripe limited and SilverStripe the product (CMS and Framework), and should be used in favour of the logos without the tagline where possible.
