I've just been playing around with the Forum module, it looks great (well done guys!). I've been testing the Newsletter module too and noticed that if I try to subscribe to the newsletter and then try to subscribe to the forum, it says that the email address is already in use. Why does subscribing to the newsletter give me a forum profile too? And is there a way to subscribe without automatically being made forum member?

I want to allow anyone to subscribe to the newsletter, but control forum members manually.

Because Forum does not create Forum Members. It just appends information to the built in Member class. Therefore every member has a forum profile as It just outputs the info from a given member ID. Maybe the forum member profile should make sure that member ID is part of the forum members group.

willr: Keep in mind there's other places to check, like the "Currently online" and "Welcome to our newest member".

I'll add a ticket for this to be done.

Hi, Im having the very same issue but in reverse...

by default when you register for the Forum you are added to the newsletter mailing list...this is a bit of a problem as I don't want those who sign-up to the forum to be added to the mailing list unless they want to be... how can I fix this... I cannot see in the Newsletter class or Member class why it would be adding them automatically on registering.
