Thanks for the answer!

I changed WidgetHolder.ss from /widgets/templates like this:

<div class="WidgetHolder $ClassName<% if FirstLast %> $FirstLast<% end_if %>">
 <% if Title %><h3>$Title</h3><% end_if %>
 <div id="$ClassName">
$Content
</div>
</div>

Unfortunately still not working. I'm not using a blog theme, so that's the only WidgetHolder.ss I've got.

Re: Calendar for community site

OK it looks like I have some of this sussed now. This is what I did.

I installed code into the following folder

event_calendar by downloading from http://www.silverstripe.org/event-calendar/

I then found I needed to install code into the following folders

dataobject_manager from http://www.silverstripe.org/dataobjectmanager-module/
uploadify from http://www.silverstripe.org/uploadify-module/

You must name folders exactly as shown above otherwise images used to decorate the CMS interface will not be found when uploading files. I found out the name of the dom and uploadify folders from the Silverstripe 2.4 book and found out the name of the event_calender folder by doing some detective work when an error message appeared.

You can then do the following.

As administrator create a calendar for each user group. For each calendar set access to the group and the site administrator/s.

Finally, populate the scrollable window on the homepage (by querying the calendar and calendarDateTime tables) with links which when clicked take the user to the announcement page.

One issue still remaining is to suss out what the difference is between announcements and events and figure out if both are needed. If not, either figure out how to disable what is not needed, or cater for instances where the user may add an event or add an announcement.

Other issues which I still need to suss out is how to avoid unlink errors to a cache template appearing when adding an announcement and how to avoid a horizontal scroll bar appearing on the announcement page.

Disable caching while theming

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question (I'm new to Silverstripe, working on my first site today), but is there anyway of disabling the need for the query string`?flush=1` (`?flush=all`) upon changing a template file?

I can understand the need for caching while a site is in production, but during development, when you could be making lots of small changes to the template files, it would get very annoying to have to append the query string to every url I access on the site.

..or am I missing something?

Cheers

Server Error ON ALL PAGES & ADMIN? After trying to install Member Profiles module

Hi was installing the Member Profiles module. At first it seemed to be working as I could see its setting in the admin area. Then I notices that when I went to the members page to see what it looked like, it didn't show up, it said "Server Error" and I assumed that this was because it had not been linked in the Theme folder yet. As I was researching how to add it to the theme, I also did a dev build rebuild again just in case it didn't work the first time, and I flushed my browser. Now, instead of just the members page not working, they ALL say "Server Error" (see the attached image). Even my admin shows the same thing, so I cant even log in to the admin. WHAT'S HAPPENED?

I'm running version 3.0.5. PLEASE Tell me how to fix this.

Update. I don't know why, but I just ran dev build for the third time, and now it works?! No idea why. But I'm happy. Issue: Closed. Resolution: Mystery.

Custom data object with custom 'Published' field

Hi all,

I have a problem with a custom dataobject called articles in my clients project.

They want the ability to start writing an article belonging to my custom dataobject but not show it on the front end until they flag it as Published. I have created a custom field in the popup called Published and all is working great accept...

I need to use the Odd and Even page controls to close rows off in the template. However as the items flagged as Unpublished are still counted towards the number of items (I'm using 'if Publsihed' in my template to show/hide).

So, how would I go about removing items in my custom dataobject based on a custom field within it? I'm not too sure if it should be done from the custom dataobject file or the page type that is using it and I'm also not quite sure how it should be done, if it is possible!

Any pointers would be great.

Best regards,
K...

multiple login session

Hi,

currently I'm using facebookconnect module to allow users to register via their facebook account. But what I'm trying to achieve is if user has registered directly via registration form, so that same user later can attach their FB account in order to login via FB aswell. The problem is when user is logged in, and goes to FB login somehow user gets logged out of SS (ie web) and then gets logged in via FB. This way the two accounts never can get connected.

Anyone knows of any solution for this? Or of some detailed login steps in SS to change the behaviour?

I.
P.S. I'm using SS 2.4.10.

Got it working … ssimage seems to be another (old?) version. You have to use ssmedia instead.

Mutiple File picker/ multiple image picker?

Hi there, I'm very new to Sliverstripe.

I want to be able to attach or associate multiple files to a page type.
for example I have a page type 'Album' and I want to pick multiple mp3 tracks that have already been uploaded into the cms.

rather than having to create another page type 'track' and have one upload field per track, as that would be overkill and could be time consuming to create for Website Editors

anything spring to mind? Has-many File Manager looks like it would do what I need, but seem to be way-old and its not compatible with my version (I'm using v3.05)

thanks for any advice

Cheers,
- Tim

Thanks for your reply.

No I don't really know PHP, I do build everything from start to finish but rely on Modules and adapting existing code and basic extensions.
So that part is something I could really use some help or a clear example for.

I did find the Pagination I just haven't tried using it yet.

Data Objects as Pages doesn't seem to work for SS 3.0.5 which I'm using. Even though it states is for SS3. It doesn't seem to be compatible with the latest version so I'll need to do something different..

I will give this tutorial a go and see where I get to.. (http://www.ssbits.com/tutorials/2010/dataobjects-as-pages-part-1-keeping-it-simple/)
but seeing as it uses DataObjectManager I will need to try the same thing with GridField.

thanks for your guidance.

Thanks Willr - that's ultimately what I wound up doing.

Setup a "Search and Replace" custom script, which gets run at the very end of the static exporter batch script I created.

Guessing that I could have done something with the overriding the File and Image objects' onAfterWrite method to accomplish the same, but figured this would be easier in the long run.

Calendar for community site

Hi,

I am working with Version 2.4 of Silverstripe and would like to enable logged-in users to add and remove events to a calendar after logging into the CMS. This is a community site and I do not want these users to be able to update the events of other users.

Regarding the frontend, on the home page of the site there is a small space which is just big enough for links to the next 3 events to be visible. A scroll bar allows users to scroll to other events.

As such the calendar will be used on a page with page type set to homepage.

I am using Google Calendar at the moment because this is what my client asked me to add. However now there is a need for logged in users to add and remove events to the calendar without the potential for these users to update the events of other users. I also do not want a solution whereby the user has to first log into the CMS and then log into the calendar. I just want a single log-in solution. I suspect that accommodating both of these requirements using Google Calendar will be rather involved so this is why I am now looking at non-Google solutions.

Any ideas on how I could set this up?

Thanks if anyone has any suggestions.

Hi all

I want to change to TinyMCE editor and have my own set of buttons. Some other buttons (e.g. spellcheck) won't work either. They are display in the second line, if I don't write …

HtmlEditorConfig::get('cms')->setButtonsForLine(2,array());

What do I have to do to get this working? I want all my buttons in just one row.

Hope someone can help! Thanks!!

Inserting search boxes from other sites

Hi there,

I'm new to silverstripe and not sure how this could be implemented.

My site is a travel website and I would like to add search box from Transport for London and another for hotel search from booking.com.
If I try to add the code for by editing the HTML code on the CMS, nothing happens. The one from TFL shows everything but the search box. The one from booking.com has more than 600 lines of code with HTML and Java.

Can anyone give me some pointers? Any help will be much appreciated!

Thank you,
Ana

Re: SS3 sitetree issue

This is apparently still an issue. I have a fresh install of v 3.0.5 on my WAMP localhost and have been following the tutorial to extend the site with the Article and Staff page types. The drag-and-drop to rearrange the tree is rather difficult to control, but once I do get a page in the right place it doesn't affect the site navigation menus until I Save&Publish the moved page. Logging out and in did not do it, nor did ?flush=1.

I just tried submitting a widget to the widget submit page and the form worked for me. I know I've seen this error occur on some of my sites when I've accidentally used static publisher to cache a form page that I shouldn't have.

I cannot add widget from url http://www.silverstripe.org/widgets/manage/add
for error: Security token doesn't match, possible CSRF attack.

So I'm put it here.

Weather Widget 0.0.1 for SilverStripe 3.x

Google silently kills popular API, breaks weather apps everywhere, so you need to sign up here http://www.wunderground.com/weather/api/?ref=twc
to obtain License Key and Partner ID.
To find location ID go to http://www.weather.com/forecast, e.g.: Kosice, Slovakia.
You'll see inn address bar
http://www.weather.com/weather/today/Kosice+LOXX0003:1:LO, so location ID is LOXX0003.
Then you can lookup anywhere in the world and provide wether for it.

Installation:
Read carefully https://github.com/silverstripe/silverstripe-widgets.
Make sure you have enabled widgets first to use (http://doc.silverstripe.org/widgets?s[]=widget#adding_widgets_to_other_pages)

1. extract this to your SilverStripe root directory widget_weather
2. run "dev/build?flush=all"
3. visit your page and drag and drop the widget to the right

I'm using https://github.com/twitter/bootstrap/, so template assumes bootstrap is loaded (jquery, js, css), becouse it uses bootstrap accordion.
You can rewrite template to your needs.

Source: https://github.com/JStika/weather

Hey Panupat,

Take a look at the <li> element in the code i provided.

<li><a href="$Link" class="$LinkingMode">$Title.XML</a>

the $LinkingMode template variable will return either "current", "section" or "link". You can use this feature with CSS to hide/show the pages you want displayed in the menu e.g, only show the menu item with the class "current" for example. For a better explanation check out the tutorial page here http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/tutorials/1-building-a-basic-site and do a search for $LinkingMode.

If you haven't gone through the basic tutorial you really should. It will help get you started with developing websites in SilverStripe.

Thanks IOTI. But if I do a loop, I would get links to all pages. There are going to be a lot of pages in my site. For ex.

FF1
- sub pages
FF2
- sub pages
FF3
- sub pages
..
..
..
FF14
- subpages

Let's say I'm viewing a page in FF2, I only want the navigator to show

FF2
- sub pages

Without any other FF. Would this be possible?

Thanks again

Hello Panupat!

This would be very easy to achieve in SilverStripe! You could take advantage of the Menu() and Children() function in your template to achieve what you want. You would most likely put this in your Sidebar.ss template. Here is some example code to get you started.

<% if Menu(1) %>
<ul>
<% loop Menu(1) %>
<li><a href="$Link" class="$LinkingMode">$Title.XML</a>
<% if Children %>
<ul>
<% loop Children %>
<li><a href="$Link" class="$LinkingMode">$Title.XML</a></li>
<% end_loop %>
</ul>
<% end_if %>
</li>
<% end_loop %>
</ul>
<% end_if %>

This is generally how you would create a "nested" menu in SS. So if you created a top level "Ff1" page and it had the sub pages "characters" and another one "weapons" they would only appear below your "Ff1" page. You'll have to create the CSS yourself to style the menu though.

Are you using a custom theme or the default Simple theme?

Adding custom sidebar navigation to each page selectively?

Just started testing out SilverStripe and I'm liking how I can add sub page very much. I'm curious if SS will be able to do this?

My website is a Final Fantasy website and there are tons in the franchise as you can imagined. Now my site structure is something like this

ff1
- characters
- weapons
- etc

ff2
- characters
- magics
- etc

What I want is a navigational sidebar that displays links only in their same category.
So for pages in blue, the sidebar would only show links to blue pages. For pages in green, the sidebar would only show links to green pages. And etc.

Is it possible to do in SS?

I wouldn't mind at all if the sidebar needs to be created manually. As long as there's a way to selectively add them to the pages I want.

Thanks!

Hi,
I am using Silverstripe 3.0. I have added custom tabs/sub tabs for pages...if you are on a sub tab and you publish the page, the control returns to the main tab....I need the tabs preserved...

I noticed that this has been fixed in SS 3.0.5

Can someone please point out all the related files that have been modified to fix this in SS 3.0.5

Thanks in advance

Do you plan on using the already existing tag(s) field as categories or do you want to use a separate managed list of categories?

If its the latter you could try using a module I made: https://github.com/IOTI/silverstripe-blogcategories. It does not have a built it dropdown for selecting a category on the front end but you could build one yourself. If you don't want or have need of the module you could look at my code and see how i added extra controller actions to the blog holder i.e it uses

"yoursitelink.com/blog/category/category-name" for filtering blog posts by a selected category.

$searchable_fields with a default value

Hello,

I have ModelAdmin to manage "Manager" dataobject records. I have a list of $searchable_fields to filter my data object result. One of the search filters is a Status dropdown menu with "active' and "Inactive" values. By default it shows all dataobjects. What I want to see by default is only records that have active status. So far I have this code:

static $searchable_fields = array(
'FirstName' =>array( 'title' => 'First Name' ),
'Surname' =>array( 'title' => 'Surname' ),
'Status' =>array( 'title' => 'Status' )
);

any help?

oops, I did mean to get back to you on this.

so: search function: you know PHP right? Just write a form, set action="{$Link}/nameoffunction"
and then have a function in your controller called nameoffunction where you do what you need to with your POST data, and return a paginated list (see below link)

Pagination: http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/howto/pagination (simple google search found this)

You could use this module (https://github.com/arambalakjian/DataObjects-as-Pages) to make your dataobjects (i.e. the members) act as pages. which takes care of the link through to their own page bit.
Or you could write your own version - this is an old (but good) example. http://www.ssbits.com/tutorials/2010/dataobjects-as-pages-part-1-keeping-it-simple/ (some syntax might be slightly different for SS3, but essentials are the same.

I think that covers it all. Happy coding!!
