Not sure what the differences could be between your local and prod sites. I would investigate those differences (could be a different SS versions)

Server Error on MultiSite Intallation

Hi, I had attempted to install a multisite setup about a weekago. I just discovered that my subdomain was ignoring its own mysite/_config.php and was instead referencing the root/silverstripecore/mysite/_config.php and this wont work if I want to run multiple sites. So, my question is, why is it referencing the core config file and not its local one? I looked up my php errors and got this:

[22-May-2013 11:34:58 ] PHP Warning: require_once(/home/root/SilverStripeCore/mysite/_config.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/root/SilverStripeCore/framework/core/manifest/ClassLoader.php on line 57
[22-May-2013 11:34:58 ] PHP Fatal error:  require_once(): Failed opening required '/home/root/SilverStripeCore/mysite/_config.php' (include_path='.:/home/root/SilverStripeCore/framework:/home/root/SilverStripeCore/framework/parsers:/home/root/SilverStripeCCore/framework/thirdparty:.:/usr/php/54/usr/lib64:/usr/php/54/usr/share/pear') in /home/root/SilverStripeCore/framework/core/manifest/ClassLoader.php on line 57

I know that it cant find the _config.php file in the core directory because I renamed it to try and force it to go with the local file. Whats wrong? I have my subsite symlinked as far as I know. Do I need to have my corescript/mysite/_config.php set up to some how handing incoming calls from all my subdomain sites? Please help. Thanks.

CSS class not populating in textarea wrapper div

I've been on a new job so I'm not tremendously familiar with SilverStripe ... using it here is my first experience with it. That being said, I'm having a problem that I hope is super-simple that somebody can help me with, because I'm not having any luck solving it.

We have a form that has ~8-10 input fields and two of them aren't populating the CSS class in the div that wraps the div that contains the text area. For instance, we have this html rendering on our servers:

<div >
<div id="MemberBio" class="field textarea "><label class="left" for="Form_EditProfileForm_MemberBio">Talk about your previous work experience, your life, or both</label><div class="middleColumn"><textarea id="Form_EditProfileForm_MemberBio" name="MemberBio" rows="5" cols="20"></textarea></div></div>
</div>

but when we run the identical code base locally, we're getting

<div class="MemberBio">
            <div id="MemberBio" class="field textarea "><label class="left" for="Form_EditProfileForm_MemberBio">Talk about your previous work experience, your life, or both</label><div class="middleColumn"><textarea id="Form_EditProfileForm_MemberBio" name="MemberBio" rows="5" cols="20"></textarea></div></div>
         </div>

That MemberBio class in the div makes all the difference (without it the layout is pretty messed up) in this and I'm not having a ton of luck figuring out where this is generated. If anybody has any ideas, or can at least ask me questions that will steer me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Sam

I've tried this, and still have the exact same problem :/ Which version of Silverstripe are you using? I installed the framework, did a 'dev/build', then imported the translatable folder and edited the config file, and on the next 'dev/build', the same error showed up.

Event Calendar Recurrence confusion

I've been working with the Event Calendar module as a means to enumerate my library's locations' open hours, and have had some difficulties with recurrence.

The data model is thus:

CalendarDateTime has a start date, end date, start time and end time (as well as they "all day" marker).

CalendarEvent has multiple CalendarDateTimes, which can be used to enumerate specific instances of this event occurring without a predictable pattern. Each one you specify will show up in the appropriate calendar view so long as you don't turn on Recurrence. Each entry will have the following details:

* Starts on: CalendarDateTime->start_date + CalendarDateTime->start_time
* Ends on: CalendarDateTime->end_date + CalendarDateTime->end_time

CalendarEvent also has Recurrence, which can be toggled on, then set to daily, weekly or monthly, with some interval between. When Recurrence is set, only the first CalendarDateTime is consulted, and the recurrence continues until the day before that CalendarDateTime->end_date. So the entries look like this:

* Starts on: CalendarDateTime->start_date +CalendarDateTime->start_time
* Ends on: CalendarDateTime->start_date + CalendarDateTime->end_time

Notice the differences: without recurrence, we can have event entries that span multiple days, while with recurrence, single-day events are created between the two dates specified in the first CalendarDateTime. This different usage of fields depending on whether recurrence is enabled or not seems potentially problematic.

I think there are two possible solutions to this confusion:

1. Attach Recurrence to the CalendarDateTime, not the CalendarEvent. This would allow for a whole new level of grouping recurring events: if you had weekly recurring events Sunday - Saturday, you could define all 7 days worth of recurrences on one event. You could also mix in non-recurring instances of the CalendarEvent if needed.

2. Keep Recurrence attached to CalendarEvent, but apply the pattern to all the CalendarDateTimes. This would be simpler as the data model would need to change less, but there would be overall flexibility in terms of pattern.

In either case, I think we need to either use include a RecurUntilDate and/or RecurXTimes that's separate from the end_date, so that multiple day events can recur. I think it may also be clearer to include that date in the recurrence, instead of stopping the day before (simple matter of changing "<=" to "<").

I'd very much like to hear others' opinions on the matter. What would work best for your use cases?

Re: Event Calendar - recurring events

Working on recurrence along with iCal feed support; both are quite challenging. I think a lot of the issue surrounds the data model; We've got CalendarEvents which have many CalendarDateTimes, which are each made of a start date, end date, start time and end time. But the Recurrence is tied to the CalendarEvent, not the specific CalendarDateTimes. I suppose that should mean that the Recurrence pattern should be applied to each CalendarDateTime, but at this point it seems like the start date and end date are being used as the bounds for the recurrence. It's all very muddled (or at least my understanding is).

ICS feeds don't work on the current version of Event Calendar; I've been hacking at them all day, and part of the problem is the ICSReader.php class dying early (which I think I've fixed), and the other part is mapping iCal event data to the CalendarEvent data model, which is more complex.

Hello,

I am fairly new to SilverStripe.

What I want to do is create a page that uses tabs for content much like this:

http://jqueryui.com/tabs/#default

What I would like to do is something similar to the StaffHolder and StaffPage found in the tutorial where the staff holder page is populated based on the individual children (staff) pages.

In this case, I believe the TabHolder page would run <% loop Children %> and then insert/create tabs based on the Child pages that are associated with it.

I'm just not sure how to write the code to accomplish this.

Can anyone please help me with this?

Thanks!

As seems to be the story of my life right now - but no sooner than I finish posting this request for help, I find the answer.

Having looked at http://www.ssbits.com/snippets/2009/resizing-an-image-in-a-custom-img-tag/ I've found that the solution to my problem already exists, I simply need to replace the `{$URL}` with `{$SetWidth(630).URL}` and it does exactly what I need it to do..

.. so that's great, but returning to my original question, just for my own knowledge, can anyone tell me why my attempted solution didn't work?

Getting the URL of a resized image

I'm trying to build a custom function which returns the URL of a resized image..

The deal is that I'm going to have a series of thumbnail images listed on the page, each of which will link to a larger version of the image. I don't want the linked to image to be the full size image, however, as this is likely to be too large, so I wanted to provide a link to a resized image.

(Following me so far?)

Right now the code in my template looks like this:

<% if $Photos %>
   <ul class="project-photos">
      <% loop $Photos %>
         <li><a href="{$URL}">{$CroppedImage(210,210)}</a></li>
      <% end_loop %>
   </ul>
<% end_if %>

what I was planning on changing the `{$URL}` to something like `{$croppedURL(610)}`, and having a function on my Photo class (which extends the Image class) which returned the resized the URL, figuring I would do something like this:

public function croppedURL($width = false)  {
   if ($width != false) {
      $this->resizeByWidth($width);
   }
   return $this->URL();
}

But upon doing so, I get a Server Error 500.

I'vee tried my best to make this work following the examples found on http://doc.silverstripe.org/framework/en/reference/image - but thus far I've not had any luck - can someone help please?

Thank you

Having read some info here: http://www.silverstriperesources.com/articles/silverstripe-3-many-many-a-comprehensive-example/ - I've changed my code thusly:

class Page extends SiteTree
{

   public static $db = array();

   public static $has_one = array();

//   public static $has_many = array(
//      'Photos' => 'Photo'
//   );

   public static $many_many = array(
      'Photos' => 'Photo'
   );

   public function getCMSFields()
   {
      $fields = parent::getCMSFields();
      $fields->addFieldToTab('Root.Images', new UploadField('Photos'));
      return $fields;
   }

}

/**
* Allows the upload of multiple images to pages
* http://www.silverstripe.org/general-questions/show/20345#post315482
*/
class Photo extends Image
{
//   public static $has_one = array(
//      'Page' => 'Page'
//   );

   public static $many_many = array(
      'Page' => 'Page'
   );
}

So far as I can tell, this appears to be working as intended and has fixed the issue of having the same image attached to multiple pages (although if someone could just check over my code to make sure I've not done anything silly).

I've still got the second issue of ordering the images however, can someone help? Cheers

Hello HARVS1789UK and oceanmountain,

I'm having the exact problem that you describe. Could you please explain mit some more detail how to solve the issue with this controller method? Unfortunately I'm not savvy enough to imply the concrete steps. Would really appreciate it!
Thanks for your time!

Multiple images attached to each page

I'm working on a project where each page on the site needs to have anywhere from one to many images attached to it. These are not images which exist within the page's content, but rather separate images which I'll need to manipulate into things like thumbnails, etc..

Having followed the tutorials, along with a little bit of guess work, I've managed, using the following code, to get something working:

/mysite/code/Page.php

class Page extends SiteTree
{

   public static $db = array();

   public static $has_one = array();

   public static $has_many = array(
      'Photos' => 'Photo'
   );

   public function getCMSFields()
   {
      $fields = parent::getCMSFields();
      $fields->addFieldToTab('Root.Images', new UploadField('Photos'));
      return $fields;
   }

}

/**
* Allows the upload of multiple images to pages
* http://www.silverstripe.org/general-questions/show/20345#post315482
*/
class Photo extends Image
{
   public static $has_one = array(
      'Page' => 'Page'
   );
}

As this is the base Page class, which all my other extend, it means with very little effort I've been able to add image uploading to every page on the site, accessing them in the theme files like so (for example)..

<% if $Photos %>
   <% loop $Photos %>
      $CroppedImage(630,320)
   <% end_loop %>
<% end_if %>

This is fine, so far, but it has a couple of problems with which I'm looking for some help.

The first issue is that I'm only able to have each image attached to one page, where as I was hoping for a more flexible system which would let me attach the same image to multiple pages. I realise that I could just upload multiple copies of the same image, but that isn't really fixing the problem, it's just bypassing it.

Second, I'm looking for a way in which I'm able to order the images, so that when I do a loop (like above), the image I assigned as first in the CMS is the first in the loop.

Can anyone help point me in the right direction on how I'm able to fix these issues?

Thank you

Goggle Sitemaps for 2.4

Hi There,

I would love to run a Silverstripe 2.4.10 installation with the Google Sitemap Module (since it's not built in any more in that version).
If I search the extensions/modules section, I get a Google Sitemaps Module v. 02 that claims to be compatible with 2.4. If I download and unpack it, there's a Readme telling me the module is compatible with 3.1+, and to use the built in version for 2.4. Besides it doesn't work.

Does anyone know where to get the REAL 2.4 compatible Goggle Sitemaps Module?

Thanks for your appreciated help
SF

Hi Ben,

Yes I know that it will only record the login, not how long they're logged in for, but you can use that time as the 'start' point - i.e. when they first logged in.

If you need to record how long they're logged in for every single time they log in, that's a lot more complicated.

I might have been a little bit preemptive in my posting.

Having read the tutorials on this site, it was suggesting that you need to run the `?flush=1` after each and every template change because of the caching...

... however, having started building a site using SilverStripe, I've found that I've not yet needed to run the flush command, as the changes are reflecting straight away. I'm not sure why this is, I'm just glad it's working.

The only other thing I've done is created a silverstripe-cache directory, I don't know if this would have something to do with it?

In any case, right now I'm happy - I just hope that I've not somehow disabled the caching for when I come to putting the site online.

Though in development it does add several seconds to page load time, which, if you're working on CSS and other stuff can prove annoying. Something like $_GET['flush'] = 1 in your _config.php or _ss_environment might work.

Security::set_login_recording(true);

will only make sure SS to record every login attempt. However, it will not record how long a user login for one session.

I think we need some Ajax script to 'ping' the server and tell the session is still lived and record the time in database. Then the backend will work out this recorded time and the last login attempt to tell how long the user is logged in.

but i can see there is a problem when a user logins from multiple browsers.

Hi Ben,

Not something I've attempted before, but I believe you can store login attempts by using:

Security::set_login_recording(true);

Perhaps you could use this data? Something along the lines of:

$lastLoggedIn = LoginAttempt::get()->addFilter('MemberID', Member::currentUserID())->addFilter('Status', 'Success')->sort('LastUpdated DESC')->first()->LastUpdated;

Then work out the difference between that timestamp and the current time. Hope this helps

Re: Output of function not showing in widget

+1 for oceanmountain's solution!

This had been driving me crazy for ages as for some reason I was only seeing the issue (an empty widget which just showed the widget title and no content returned) when I had multiple widgets on the same page.

Even then if I had the widget at the top of the widget area (the first widget on the page) it would still work fine with the method in my model class rather than in my controller class :-S

Regardless as described above moving my method to the controller for all my widgets has solved the issue

Silverstripe "Theme Contest"? Just an idea....

Hi

I've stuck my head into the SilverStripe.org website from time to time to see how this awesome CMS is developing, and I really like what I see (I've even made it to a Silverstripe meetup in both London and Wellington). However, one thing that struck me today on my latest visit, was that the themes gallery is relatively empty of fresh new ideas for themes.

For example, in the last 3 years, it would appear that only 8 new themes have been listed! Especially since v3 is now out, it would be great to see more new themes springing up that are fully compatible and make the most of the platform.

Of course there might be HEAPS of the older themes that are already fully up-to-date, but it is hard to tell, as there is no way to sort the themes by when they were last edited. There is also no way to sort them by version compatibility. Also having some sort of star rating would also be useful there to see which are the popular and well constructed themes as voted by the community. Those three items would really help improve the current themes gallery in my opinion.

Those gallery improvements aside, there are still too few recent themes in the gallery. That is when I had an idea that maybe Silverstripe could possibly run a "Theme Contest" of some description to encourage designers to submit some fresh new quality themes as a showcase of what Silverstripe v3 can do now in all its glory. The end result could be a heap of new themes for the gallery which is great for Silverstripe and the community (especially new comers as a place to start and get tweaking). The designers themselves would get some exposure through their featured themes, and one or more lucky winners could get a prize of some sort.

What do others think?

Mike

Are you double sure it is calling from that version of WidgetHolder.ss? Try adding in some test text to verify. A lot of widgets also come with their own WidgetHolder.ss file.

Export Member columns in Security tab

Hi,

I understand that in SS3, you can extend ModelAdmin, and provide the getExportFields() function to supply the export columns for the "export to csv" functionality.

What if I am not extending ModelAdmin, but using the default Security tab to try to export the Member database?

Currently I am using a custom "MyMemberExtension" dataextension to extend the default Member dataobject, and dataextension doesn't seem to expose functions for modifying the "export to csv" functionality, short of providing the entire Member dataobject as columns in summary_fields to get it to work.

Is it possible for the "MyMemberExtension" to access the GridField of the Security page in the cms?

[Solution]
Decorate the SecurityAdmin class:
_config.php add

Object::add_extension('SecurityAdmin', 'MySecurityAdminExtension');

MySecurityAdminExtension.php:

class MySecurityAdminExtension extends Extension {

    function updateEditForm(&$form) {
$gridField = $form->Fields()->fieldByName('Root.Users.Members');
if ($gridField) {
$gridField->getConfig()->getComponentByType('GridFieldExportButton')->setExportColumns( array(
'YourFieldSource' => 'Your Field Label',
'FirstName' => 'First Name',
'Surname' => 'Surname',
'Email' => 'Email',
.....
));
}
}
}

[/Solution]

Re: Calendar for community site

OK it looks like I have some of this sussed now. This is what I did.

I installed code into the following folder

event_calendar by downloading from http://www.silverstripe.org/event-calendar/

I then found I needed to install code into the following folders

dataobject_manager from http://www.silverstripe.org/dataobjectmanager-module/
uploadify from http://www.silverstripe.org/uploadify-module/

You must name folders exactly as shown above otherwise images used to decorate the CMS interface will not be found when uploading files. I found out the name of the dom and uploadify folders from the Silverstripe 2.4 book and found out the name of the event_calender folder by doing some detective work when an error message appeared.

You can then do the following.

As administrator create a calendar for each user group. For each calendar set access to the group and the site administrator/s.

Finally, populate the scrollable window on the homepage (by querying the calendar and calendarDateTime tables) with links which when clicked take the user to the announcement page.

One issue still remaining is to suss out what the difference is between announcements and events and figure out if both are needed. If not, either figure out how to disable what is not needed, or cater for instances where the user may add an event or add an announcement.

Other issues which I still need to suss out is how to avoid unlink errors to a cache template appearing when adding an announcement and how to avoid a horizontal scroll bar appearing on the announcement page.

Disable caching while theming

Hi, sorry if this is a silly question (I'm new to Silverstripe, working on my first site today), but is there anyway of disabling the need for the query string`?flush=1` (`?flush=all`) upon changing a template file?

I can understand the need for caching while a site is in production, but during development, when you could be making lots of small changes to the template files, it would get very annoying to have to append the query string to every url I access on the site.

..or am I missing something?

Cheers

Server Error ON ALL PAGES & ADMIN? After trying to install Member Profiles module

Hi was installing the Member Profiles module. At first it seemed to be working as I could see its setting in the admin area. Then I notices that when I went to the members page to see what it looked like, it didn't show up, it said "Server Error" and I assumed that this was because it had not been linked in the Theme folder yet. As I was researching how to add it to the theme, I also did a dev build rebuild again just in case it didn't work the first time, and I flushed my browser. Now, instead of just the members page not working, they ALL say "Server Error" (see the attached image). Even my admin shows the same thing, so I cant even log in to the admin. WHAT'S HAPPENED?

I'm running version 3.0.5. PLEASE Tell me how to fix this.

Update. I don't know why, but I just ran dev build for the third time, and now it works?! No idea why. But I'm happy. Issue: Closed. Resolution: Mystery.

i got the same problem

when i installed, there are a few simple errors (like missing the matching brackets).

seems there is problem controlling the quality of the release http://www.silverstripe.org/assets/modules/stable/silverstripe-ecommerce_3.0-master-HEAD.tar.gz

How to detect how long the user is logged in

Hello

I wonder if there is a way in SS to tell how long the user logged in from the front end? I will then record this and show it in the CMS backend.

thanks

Ben
