remove extra fields in cms for blog tree

Hi All,

I have this strange issue with updateCMSFields() for blog tree. I try to remove some fields in the cms for blog tree page type. I am using 0.6.0, and I noticed in BlogTree.php, there is no SiteTree::disableCMSFieldsExtensions() and SiteTree::enableCMSFieldsExtensions() being called around the parent::getCMSFields() method. I added those and of course, I added $this->extend('updateCMSFields', $fields) right before returning the fields.

In the extension, I just use normal removeByName() just like what I did in BlogHolder and BlogEntry extensions. And I surely added entries in the _config.php file. The strange thing is BlogHolder and BlogEntry extensions work as expected, only BlogTree extension doesn't seem to do nothing!

Thanks in advance! This is really driving me crazy.

Is there any way to limit the number of submissions on a form

I am relatively new to Silverstripe with our new website launching only a couple of months ago.

We have an event coming up and using the forms module I have created a ticket order form. It is for a school event and I was wondering if there any way to limit the number submissions based on the house the child belongs to. Basically wanting that when a house hits 70 ticket requests it won't allow any more?

Many thanks in advance for any help and advice you may be able to give me.

I'm going to assume you're working on a Mac -- that's what the 'M' in MAMP starts for (if you're on Windows you want WAMP)...

Can be downloaded from http://www.mamp.info/. Installation and configuration is simple, full documentation is on the MAMP site. You can put your site files within the MAMP application (htdocs folder) or point MAMP to your sites directory or a specific folder within. With a bit of extra configuration you can customise the address of your local development server and specify the local port that is used. Further information on this can be found at https://drupal.org/node/66187 - just skip all the Drupal stuff to lower down the page!

loop checkboxes in a Holder Page

Im new to silverstripe and I want on a Holder Page, which has several pages (like the example of the Article Holder Page, and the Article Page) put some checkboxes, so the user can check some or all Articles (which are listed in the holder) and let them show listed in another file and print them out. But just the minimized text and imaage of all the Articles in the Article Holder Page. The problem I have is, that just outside the loop the form works and shows the checkboxes. Inside it does not work.
How can I have checkboxes in the loop children section?

I think i would go for SS3.1beta3, or you could just go for 2.4.9 - not the new nice admin design, but it works.

SilverStripe can be a bit complex, it's not a CMS like Wordpress where you add modules and modules and then you have what you "kinda" want.
In SS, you code exactly what YOU want - once you get the basics, you will love it.

Read the tutorials and you will come a long way fast!

using 3.0.5 seems to be full of bugs... and really difficult to use i am new to silverstripe and omg its a frustrating throw ur computer out the window cms....! any advice for a newbie and info would be appreciated, had probbs installing due to using free host and now i cant login seems like problem after problem, i have vaigly used other cms,s and they have never once given me a error, so what am i doing wrong i am thinking 3.0.5 is whats wrong? and this cms really is not simple at all unless i am wrong? feel like i need a degree in coding to really call it easy : ( help! plz!

You can find your "_config.php" in the "mysite" directory.

Simply add this line in mysite/_config.php:

HtmlEditorConfig::get('cms')->addButtonsToLine(4, 'fontsizeselect,forecolor,fontselect');

Then reload the cms.

Same error logging in as when i installed

Error 500: Script Execution Failure

Most common reasons for returning this error message are:

• File Upload Mode
When you upload Perl, CGI scripts via FTP you should use always ASCII mode. If you get "Error 500: Script Execution Failure" you should check whether your FTP client uses ASCII mode when uploading your scripts, because if it uses BINARY mode to upload your scripts they won't work on the server. The problem caused by wrong upload mode is associated with the way different operating systems handle the "end of line" character. Unix system uses a "line-feed" (LF), Windows uses a "carriage-return" (CR) and "line-feed" (LF) pair. That's why it is very important that you set the uploading mode to ASCII.

• File Permissions
When you upload scripts via FTP the file permissions are set by default to 755. If you get "Error 500: Script Execution Failure" you should check whether your scripts have 755 permissions. Otherwise your scripts have lower level of permissions and does not support execution upon request. The octal representation of the 755 permission is equal to the following textual format: -rwxr-xr-x
Most FTP clients support the CHMOD command which is used for setting file permissions. In case you have set improper permissions to your scripts, use your FTP client and set "Read, Write, Execute" permissions for the owner, "Read, Execute" permissions for the group and everyone else.

• Script Errors
This is the third well known reason for getting "Error 500: Script Execution Failure" upon execution of your scripts. Check your scripts for any obvious syntax or programming errors to make sure your code is not broken.

Remember: When you get a "Error 500: Script Execution Failure", you should always check for any file uploading problems (ASCII/BINARY) and the executable permission settings. Once those are checked and verified, it looks like there is a syntax error or some other problem in the script.

Willr,
So I have tried installing 1.0 and master tar files of userforms. It adds to the SS infrastructure just fine, however, once I bring a new page up and select the userform page, I can see the form tab with the drop down box to add fields, but it won't add a field. There are no pop-up errors, it just won't populate with my selection. The published web page still only contains the $UserDefinedForm. This module is, perhaps, one of the most important ones for building my site ...

If you're using IIS, go to the Server manager, select the site that shows this error, then in center panel select "Request Filtering", inside you'll find tab named "Hidden Segments", there is already added segment "silverstripe-cache/" remove it and site will start to work. Don't know yet if you need to add it without slash or leave as is...

This is the install sub forum. Please ask those kind of question in "Customising the CMS".

Note: "forecolor, fontselect and fontsizeselect" is bad practice. Please use CSS classes and common html tags instead.

However, you can set this option in your _config.php with:

I got it working in the latest version of SilverStripe, by editing the tinymce.template.js file, adding forecolor, fontselect and fontsizeselect to the configuration.

OK so were do i add forecolor, fontselect and fontsizeselect to the configuration. in the tinymce.template.js file on my server? as in do i add to the top of the code or the bottom or replace some code or ? or ?
exactly were ? do i delete anything ? please explain in a very basic way thankyou Screen shots would help too : )

simple TUTORIAL INSTALL SS 3.0.5 CMS to a FTP

unzip SS CMS add files to server, LOOK AT PICS IN THIS POST FOR EXAMPLES
i enabled sql data base created, need to do that before adding the cms files
SET UP SQL AKA DATABASE
SAVE all LOGIN DETAILS AND proceed WITH FILEZILLA , THERE YA GO!
the last screen shot shows the validate jquery folder as i had probbs with that before that's how it should look to make the cms work properly! and Note when you install the cms after uploading it to your host aka server if you get a error while installing or after installing then refresh the page , the page after install should be yoursitename/install.php.

Should be: for example http://yoursite/public_html/install.php (e.g. http://mysite.com/silverstripe-folder/install.php)

i installed to www.freehostingeu.com NOTE that if you are going to have alot of traffic or even medium traffic you will prob want to upgrade your pakage as they provide low memory for free users, i am just using my site to refer face to face and phone call customers so wont be needing to upgrade thankfully, and note that hardly any free hosts are compatable with silverstripe.

some more info before i figured all this out
member devlin was very helpful but i was still quite confused so i wrote this tutorial for other people like me who are not as advanced as devlin ^_^

Hey cheers for that but unfortunately it doesn't seem to help.
some progress... I ran

vendor/bin/behat --init

and it successfully created a FeatureContext.php file for me. However when I run behat after putting a definition in that file it doesn't seem to recognise it - its as though the file isn't loaded at all. Hmm will keep plugging at it.

This is the right install.php... http://reliable.comze.com/install.php looks like the right URL. Unfortunately, your server has only PHP 5.2.17 installed. So you cannot install SilverStripe 3.0... Maybe you can ask your hoster... there is maybe an option to get to PHP 5.3... SilverStripe 2.4 should be run fine though -- at least for the time being.

i understand what you mean but ihave installed joomla and getsimple in less than 20 mins and was the 1st time i ever used them and this has taken me so far 2 days and counting so i would say its deff not easy i must be missing somthing or did somthing wrong somewere if it is as easy as u say : ( thanks for your replys i nreally appreciate it : )

You could use SS 2.4.10, but the setup is not different than the 3.0 procedure. Also, SS 2.4 is not PHP 5.4 compatible.

The overall install procedure is pretty clean... there is no rocket science here except you're very new to web development... other cmses installs are way more complicated or ask from you the same things.

Sorry, I don't know any free hosts.

The best option for you to learn SilverStripe is to install the XAMPP package on your windows pc. The setup is pretty straight forward and it is certainly easier than to push each modified file to your server manually.

If free hosts are a requirement for you, I suggest you build your website locally on your pc and publish only static pages to your live website. I don't think your free host server will handle much more than this.

thanks for ur reply , just tried those links which are not provided in any tutorials or may have missed them thanks i may be getting closer to installing ss lol one day! any other tips and info please, running on live websites is my only option as its free and less hassle and quicker for me to learn i just want to install ss and its like trying to make a nuclear power station : (

Also, I recommend using LAMP/XAMPP/MAMP to try out SilverStripe locally on your computer before running a live website.

just got a reply from my host they said You receive a 404 error page, because you uploaded the installation files at reliable.eu.pn/public_html, thus in order to access the files you need to browser http://reliable.eu.pn/public_html
and when i go to that link its says:
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

thanks for your reply, though with all the pics i put i still am confused and dont get how i am suppost to fix my issue, not many free hosts will let you install this cms due to memory issues can you tell me some free hosts that fully support silverstripe? thanks : )

Well, not exactly BROKE it... but it's doing some pretty hoopy stuff...

I wanted to add an editable sidebar to my page so I updated Page.php as follows:

The CMS still works -- after a fashion. I have a new tab in the CMS called 'Sidebar'. I can edit content in main field and in 'sidebar' and write to the DB. It's only when I 'save' the page that the funky stuff happens. I get a facefull of goobledegook, (see screenshot) hit refresh and suddenly all is well...

Unfortunately I'm a designer who is still coming to terms with PHP -- so I can't see anything wrong with the code. It worked in older projects but doesn't seem to like SilverStripe 3... am I calling on a resource that has been deprecated / removed?

Any advice gratefully appreciated!!

HOW TO INSTALL SS 3.0.5??

I want to install silverstripe to my ftp host and i am finding it difficult with no info on installing 3.0.5 anywere on the web just for older versions i have used many cms's and this is the one with no help tutorials and i would like to be pointed in the right direction of a tutorial that is for this version and a tutorial that i can understand, thanks i am new to this cms so excuse my lack of knowledge..
i am trying again now with a different host we will see what happens i will edit this post and add a tutorial to help others if i am successful.
end result 4-4 error dont work!! any help? anyone????? look at the pics

Just one thing weird I've noticed -- the CMS doesn't seem to appreciate my efforts very much. However all page content is written to DB and a refresh solves the CMS interface issues... however it gets pretty ugly for a moment!

Anybody have any ideas about what's going on?

Revisiting the post to try to get an editable sidebar working in SS3...

Discovered that "Root.Content.Sidebar" is deprecated in Version 3. PHP code needs to change to the following...

I have gotten past the part below. However, when I go to the form tab, I am unable to add fields to the form. In addition the only thing I see on the website is $UserDefinedForm. Again a helping hand would be good.

I've released a simple module for improving automatic cropping in SilverStripe 3: https://github.com/jonom/silverstripe-focuspoint

Basically, when you edit an image in the CMS there is a new field that lets you select a point on the image as the focus point - i.e someone's face. Then instead of using CroppedImage in your templates you use CroppedFocusedImage, and the image is cropped with a bias towards keeping the focus point in the center of the image, rather than always cropping from the centre.

Feedback, suggestions and pull requests welcome, hope someone finds it useful

userform v1.0, error installing

I am trying to install userform 1.0 on silverstripe 3.0.5 and I get this error (and when I didn't get errors, the form page doesn't have anything to add (dropdowns, etc)):

Unable to login (login page shown again)

I can no longer login to my Silverstripe 3.0 admin section. I've tried adding a default password to the _config.php, but this doesn't work either. The login page simply re-appears without an error message (if I use an incorrect login an error is displayed).

Any ideas on how to get back into the CMS?

Hey guys I'm having this exact same issue!

Silverstripe v3, ecommerce module v3
Installed on MAMP v2.1.1

If anyone gets to the bottom of it I would be very interested to know how to resolve it. By judging from the forum posts about the ecommerce module it seems like lots of people have it pretty much working. Would be nice to get there too.

Unfortunately, there is no "info" attribute for the "span" element.

Also, TinyMCE (the HTML editor) discards every attribute and element which is not defined in its config.

Try a html5 custom data-* attribute instead:

Normally I use jQueryUI's Tooltip plugin. It has a lot of features and allows you to use common "title" attributes for non-javascript and SEO purposes.

I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to do here but html within the editor can be somewhat messy. I would suggest going down the route of short code handlers perhaps? That way in your editor you could do something like $yellowbox['content to appear in yellow box'] giving consistent html and less overhead for the author.
