Any SS devs out there interested in meeting up in Manhattan to talk about our favorite CMS/framework?

I have a number of PHP devs that are interested in learning more (because I go on and on about SilverStripe to them), but I don't know any other SS folks in NYC. No need to be an expert, anyone with any level of interest in SilverStripe is more than welcome.

Calling Wellington Based SilverStripe people,

I run a freelance web company over at futureweb.co.nz. Only problem is I've got too busy, and also just started a full time contract.

There are various ongoing jobs, a couple of upcoming websites, and people find my web site and put in requests for quotes.

Instead of telling people I don't have time, I would much rather pass through the work to a trusted local freelancer or web design/dev company. Local is key, as many clients do want to meet.

Happy to talk to freelancers or small web companies. Most projects are fairly small, so would suit a smaller company.
Generally there are 3 types of project - fixing/adding to existing sites, designing and building complete new sites, and building sites where the design has been provided from a designer

Patches more than welcome!

It is changing the API for it would probably end up in the dev branch (3.2). Depending on the backwards compatibility and what it could break but post-2.4 branch is also getting minor enhancements and improvements for 2.4.

Hi there, I wrote a nice extension to the Image Object, which allows me to merge Images together, or blur them (by a gaussian algorithm), or also set the Backgroundcolor on a SetSize Method. (will put it on Github soon)

What I now was missing was the ability, to chain the methods.

Like, I want to resize an Image and blur it (to make a small Preview).

The Method Looks like this:

$MyObject->FullImage()->SetWidth(150)->Blur()

To achieve this, there is a small Piece of Code that needs to be added to the Image.php File.

Here is the original Code:

Hello, I made a Silverstripe 3 resources search engine to make it easier to find help with silverstripe 3. Hopefully it's useful to you too. Feedback is welcome. Bad results, site suggestions etc.

Why use this instead of google?
It searches only the documentation, api and community for version 3, not the older ones. Plus over time I will add useful resources as I become aware of them, making it better than a manual search.

We use SilverStripe almost exclusively for development, and we did this video for fun when we were looking for some freelancers. "I'm just coming from the now merged and deleted SilverStripe CMS stack exchange site proposal... we started this last week after a really great wider community discussion and looks like we are not even going to get the change to prove that we can get a critical mass... which is a shame really.

I can understand the reasons for wanting to lump all CMS's together... however our SilverStripe Community of Practice is mostly concerned with how to write specific SilverStripe Framework code and how we together share our specific code related problems and improve as SilverStripe Practitioners.

We currently do this on forums, but the functionality we can get via a stack exchange site helps to reinforce best practices and quality shared experiences and learning in working with SilverStripe (we could try to duplicate this functionality over on the forums but that is really double handling isn't it?).

SilverStripe is an interesting beast... it is both an MVC Framework AND a CMS in one... I would say from having worked in many CMS's over the last 10+ years I have not really come across anything similar at an open-source level and would say the types of discussions forming around it in the community would be largely different to those in other CMS's, hence the proposal.

Either way... if you really want to merge everything... I'm sure the SilverStripe Community will adjust and still participate, who knows perhaps it will be a platform to convert users of other CMS's over to the Framework and CMS we love to work in ;)"

Very interesting development... Area51 have close the SilverStripe proposal as being duplicate... stating "This proposal would tend to drain audience from an existing Stack Exchange site."

Can this be contested, wonder what is the other site is they mean?

We'll a heads up to SilverStripe Ltd, if they won't allow things on stack exchange but the community can see value in the style of Q&A they provide, that might be something to build into any update in SS.org coming up

Perhaps an extension to the forum? Allowing vote up of replies that answer the questions rather than having to trawl through lots of threads to find answers.

yes, that's true. you'll definitely need a core and a small group around it. But as i said, for example new modules could be voted/managed/development by the community, on a platform builded by the community, not given from the "top".

In my opinion, a community should work from the inside out, only then will create their own group feeling.

For me, there are currently too many spreaded sites. (API, documentation, google groups, etc.). The silverstripe.org is for me basicly the forum, news, and the download area. Whenever I search for extensions and modules, I google… I find many things at github but rarely here ...
That should change and i would help!

Hey Joern, yes the cathedral and bazaar concept has a lot of crossover with Wenger et al's work on the levels of community.

You need a core to integrate all the disparate parts created independently by the community contributors individual efforts - otherwise this tend to get a bit chaotic as they say a camel is a horse designed by a committee!

Nicholas Carr also has a good article called "the ignorance of the crowd" which discusses the idea that you need both the cathedral AND bazaar to make good open source software work.

Silverstripers in New Hampshire?

I went to a php meetup last night and found at least six hard core Drupal users (serious, I was starting to think that I might get a beat down for not converting on the spot...) but have yet to meet anyone in NH that uses Silverstripe. It's doubtful that there would be enough of us to attract a crowd, but surely there must be someone else in the 603 that uses Silverstripe.

A company I contract with is looking to bring onboard an extra developer or two for PHP, MySQL and Front-end tasks. It is a temporary gig but they are willing to extend a longer term offer if you mesh with them very well.

We are looking for someone who has extensive experience with OOP and MVC architectures, Wordpress, HTML5, JS, and JSON APIs. I believe most SilverStripers qualify because they use PHP, OOP and SS is a MVC framework.

PHP Developer with SilverStripe knowledge required in Toronto, Canada

Hello,

We have recently begun working on a complex web application project, that uses SilverStripe as the underlying framework. To help with this work, and some of our other projects, we're seeking an experienced PHP developer, and obviously it would be great to have someone with SilverStripe experience.

The position would be a full time salaried position with Freeform Solutions, a not-for-profit corporation in Canada that provides IT consulting services to other not-for-profits.

The project involving SilverStripe is guaranteed to continue through to about September this year, and may very well go much longer, but that is dependent on funding for that particular project. However, the position itself would be an ongoing position with Freeform, regardless of the lifecycle of that one SilverStripe project.

Inititally we have a project kicking off on the 30th April, which we need immediate assistance with. (around 5 full days work)
