Allow Amazon S3 to manage my media, ideas?

Hi all,
I would like to build a module that allows me to use amazon s3 instead of the hosted server.
I think (????) I overwrite the AssetsAdmin for uploading and managing. But what do I do for makeing sure the links are not to the assets folder but to amazons link?Any pointers?

This sounds like an interesting idea. I don't know off-hand how you'd approach this, but have you looked at the external content module. This may be a handy starting place?
