index.php - not showing (404 error)

Hi - have taken down my site so I can work on it locally, am using MAMP and have successfully added site and db to get it appearing as it should but I cannot view the site is use the URL:
localhost:8888/folder/instead i have to use the URL:
localhost:8888/folder/index.phpCan anyone tell me what I may of done wrong when re-loading my site, when I try to load some content (namely: SWF files) it does not appear.

it is a mod_rewrite issue...
On my WAMP I click the icon in the system tray, click Apache, click Apache Modules, (scroll a bit) and check rewite_module.
that should sort it

I am unsure how to change this - (am prob being a bit dense) am using MAMP "Activate/deactivate included Apache Modules" is only possible in MAMP PRO. Have checked the .htaccess file but am unsure what I should be looking for...Sorry again for my lack of knowledge...

sorry I don't use a MAC or MAMP (MAMP is Mac right?) try google "MAMP rewrite Apache"
