JavaScript News Ticker

8 April 2011 at 7:27pm
Hi,
Although I've been tinkering with Silverstripe for the last 2 years I never quite got it, if you know what I mean. Anyway I've been asked to develop a site that requires a News Ticker scrolling feed showing special offer type information on one or several pages.
I search through the forums and found http://www.silverstripe.org/general-questions/show/5810 I think that's what I need.
Re-read the how tutorials and a few forum posts and got the ticker to work - well sort of. I understand so much more.
The javascript works fine standalone on simple html pages using IE FF & Chrome, but when I use it in Sliverstripe only Chrome renders it correctely and I get a scrolling feed, Firefox and IE just display the text no scroll.
I've tried to debug using firebug and IE but their are no errors in the javascript so I am guessing that it's something to do with SS and how it renders pages.
I've followed all the reconmendations in the forums and tutorials, created a new field on the content tab populated this and this works, added a function to the Page_Controller class that requires Requirements::javascript.
I am at a total loss what to do to get this to work in IE and FF.

Check that the script tag is being included in IE. Would seem very strange that it just doesn't work in IE without giving you any error at all. IE error messages are pretty bad but you should at least get one! Have you got your site online to check out?

http://kaye.homeip.net/vikki/ticker-test/
is the Silverstripe site I am testing on
http://kaye.homeip.net/tick.html is the javscritp in a standalone page.
Been playing around with this and can get FF to work so long as the text field is larger than the text box in SS, but then IE just displays the whole text not scrolling. Chrome works fine all the time.

Display the latest news and updates in a scrolling format in your website with the news ticker script. You may have a numerous text links scrolling upwards with a separate JSP files.. Try this free website news ticker script http://www.hscripts.com/scripts/jsp/news-ticker.php to get the news updater..
