EntityRef error triggered during tutorial 2 (bad XML?)

Hi all,
I'm really enjoying going through these tutorials, but when I completed the "Allowing comments on news articles" section of the tutorial, after pasting $PageComments into the template, I receive:
This page contains the following errors:
error on line 116 at column 101: EntityRef: expecting ';'
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.I can fix it by removing the XML header from the top of the Page.ss template, but it would be good to track down and fix the root cause.
