PostGreSQL or MSSQL? Link to this post

    Hi,

I have SS 2.4.5 running at the moment using MySQL.

This is a mature installation with 60 + page types (the site is multi-company and multi-country).

Unfortunately, 61 is the upper limit on page types with silverstripe and mysql.

See http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/error-messages-server.html - error 1116. Basically, you cannot do a join on more than 61 tables in mysql and this is exactly what the sapphire ORM does!

So I am looking at moving SS to another database which does not have this limitation.

    - Is PostGreSQL stable with Silverstripe? We run the blog module and the cmsworkflow module.
    - Is MSSQL more stable? What is the communities experience with running using a MSSQL database server?
    - Is the conversion from MySQL to PostGreSQL or MSSQL straigthforward?

Does anyone have sites out there running these other database options? From looking at the forum it looks like MSSQL is less flaky than PostGreSQL but there is not a lot of info and some of the posts are old.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

    Nick
