Hi,

We have a couple of site on SS that seem to be crashing IE8.

The sites work fine in all other browsers, and even in other versions of IE. We have tried to replicate this in other versions ourselves and not been successful.

There is nothing special about either site so we are stumped.

Anyone have any ideas or a potential solution?

Cheers,

T.

For anyone else who encounters this, it appears that IE8 doesn't play nicely with jQuery 1.6.2 and will crash when loading.

So if you have this issue, change the jQuery version you are using and it should stop.

By site, you mean the frontend of the site? Or the backend?

And crashing means the browser no longer functions? A whitescreen? Some errormessage?

Hi Martimiz,

Sorry for the delay, I forgot to subscribe.

The issue is only on the front end of the site.

In terms of 'crashing' users are getting a message from windows that IE has stopped working and then it closes. I can provide the URL if that would help.

Also, I have now subscribed to this thread so there won't be any long delays.

Cheers,

T.

Hi NETim,

How much custom code have you added to silverstirpe? Or maybe modules you have added? Or can you reproduce this with a fresh install?

Assuming this si not a fresh install then please look at commenting out added code until it works to help find these issues...

Hi Swaiba,

As far as I can see, there isn't much custom code at all on the site, and only the blog module and uploadify added.

We will look into commenting bits out when we get some free time to dedicate to the site.

The strangest part is that we only get this error with IE8. No other browser gives us any trouble with this site.

Cheers,

T.

I'd first temporarily save a troublesome page into a stand-alone HTML page. Makes troubleshooting by removing things a lot easier...

If you cannot get it to work, sure, send a link, I'm getting curious :-)

Martimiz,

I was thinking of dojng that, or stripping down the template.

If you're that curious then I'll happily mail you the link. There's nothing that annoys me more with bug hunting than finding a post about an interesting bug with no example.
