I am on a PC, but 'TextMate' sounds good.

Speed of building a site is key...

Since posting this thread, I've tried a few of these suggestions, and other things I've found. Not in enough detail to get fluent with them though.

However, I've pretty much come to conclusion that I'll just subscribe to adobe 'CS6 Cloud' anyway - a lot of my work (on the design side) is sent to and from clients in PDF, PSD, AI, or inDesign formats - and for the cost of a couple of hours work/month you get everything... including dreamweaver...

Having said that, I'm still keen to explore these options more, as there is a strong case for a very simple web building too that just does what's needed and nothing more.

Just want to say I've switched to PHPStorm - it is much better than netbeans (although a bit tougher to get the debugger stuff working) so much better

Hi, it's a bit different, but i've actually come by shiftedit.net - it's online, but very similar to dreamweaver - has most the of main features, code colouring, html view, error validating. it opens files direct through ftp. Works quite well, a wee bit slow, but it helped me out a few times recently while travelling and i just jumped on any computer, logged in, made changes...
