Push Notifications

Dear silverstripe universe,
We've using silverstripe to publish a feed of comments to a group of about 70 people. Currently we're just polling from the clients every so often for updates but I am thinking there must be a better way - is anyone else out there doing some kind of push notification with silverstripe and if so can the point me in the right direction?

I'm using it to send push notifications using Urban Airship's API. Is that the kind of thing you want to do?
