2.2.3 vs 2.3.0

I am just about to give silverstripe a go. I am looking for a new CMS in which to base client websites on. I simply do not have the time to maintain my own and work on clients websites etc.
What should I be looking at?
2.2.3 or 2.3.0. How far off is the release proper? Also the 2.3 version is 3 times as large. What is in the next version?

2.2.3 is stable - 2.3.0 is still in development - you can check the progress and the items address by visiting http://open.silverstripe.com/milestone/2.3.0%20stable%2A

2.3 is very close. I recommend you use 2.3 side of things as all the module development / themes etc will be tested mainly with 2.3.
