How to change the URL layout?

I want to change the URL layout. Currently it is sitename.com/page-name/ and I want it to be sitename.com/page-name.html
Is it possible? If so, could someone please tell me how?

I think you will be able to do this with the help of .htaccess, but I am not sure of it. give it a try
