What browser is recommended to use SS? I've been using Chrome and have noticed the page changing for no apparent reason especially when creating new pages/blogs/etc.

Chrome is a good browser. IE is a bad one. I'm using IE8 & I'm finding that I'm getting logged out of lots of websites as soon as I click on a link to another page. I'm trying to remember to not start IE, instead, start my session with Chrome.
Any variant of IE doesn't work well with the admin.
Edit: This is a bit harsh really. IE6 doesn't work well, others can be buggy, but generally usable.
Firefox seems the most stable, but the quickest would either be Chrome or Saffari (I find these noticeably quicker to render JavaScript).
