my host is trying to tell me that i cant install silverstripe on a windows server? that i have to switch to linux do this?
maybe it is just specific to this one host.... www.planetdomain.com - is this possible if they still have the two options? -

I think you'll find a few people here running SS on Windows servers. It may be that they have tested SS themselves and found problems on their particular server and decided not to investigate further.
Have you actually tried installing it yourself to see what happens?

I had the same problem with some austrian provider. They recommend (strictly) to switch to linux, but I have already few SilverStripe websites installed and running on MS Windows.. I think they are just lazy to upgrade their windows machines..
