Hello,

I'm new to this SilverStripe and CMS's in general and am not a programmer. Sorry if I ask a stupid question.

I have installed Silverstripe onto my laptop (which has XP) and run it using Mowes. The only module I have added was the blog module. I have created no custom code, just used Silverstripe for content and a text editor to change the site name. I am trying to migrate the site to my host, which is Hostgator. I have no problem installing Silverstrip to the host. I was able to add phpmyadmin to Mowes and export the database and import it to Hostgator following the instructions from http://doc.silverstripe.org/doku.php?id=publishing-to-web-server . I have tried to just copy all the files from my root silverstripe folder to the host and then import the database with phpmyadmin, but I get nothing but errors.

I believe 1 problem is from my install to my laptop where I foolishly configured put nothing for the MySQL username (which I gather defaulted to "root") and gave it no password.

I believe another problem may be from moving the site from an XP Windows OS to what I am guessing is a linux server OS on Hostgator.

Being such a noob, can someone give me or point me towards step-by-step instructions for migrating my site from Mowes on XP to a likely linux host server on Hostgator? I have looked and tried various things for about 7 hours now with out success.

So nobody can tell me how to do it or point me in the right direction? I've tried doing searches but the instructions I've found haven't even come close to working. I was excited to try SilverStripe to make the homepage for my new business but so far this has been nothing but failure, frustration, and disappointment. I'm not trying to do anything big. Just move a site from my laptop to the server. I thought many website developers would work on sites at home, a coffee shop, etc. and move over their work when ready. Right now I seem to have 2 choices, give up on SilverStripe or totally re-write the site.

You must do:

1. Dump your database on Mowes and export it as sql file
2. Import that .sql file into Hostgator host database using phpMyAdmin
3. Upload your SS folder and files from Mowes to Hostgator.

That's all.

You can post common errors at pastebin.com , so we can see them.
