Multisite Installation - Full guide available?

I've been viewing a long series of posts (http://www.silverstripe.org/general-questions/show/251650) including instructions from a variety of contributors and moderators. I can't see a single updated complete guide. Is there a complete checklist of installation for multisites available somewhere?

I guess there's no full guide out there, because requirements and systems differ quite a lot. As an example: you can't use symlinks on windows and have to rely on other techniques.
There's also some confusion what "multisite" stands for. Some people refer to the subsites-module, others to having a single SilverStripe codebase for multiple installs.
