I note you ran WAMP on Windows XP - I am running Windows 7 (32bit)
I have run out of time today unfortunately unless you want to contact me. I will be working on this for the rest of the week though and will try what you suggest first thing tomorrow.

I'm running Windows 8 and xampp, and tried on Google Chrome and IE 9.
Completely blank install and fresh database.
Same errors as cdmein. The error appears when you try clicking on any link in the admin section, and nothing happens. If I right click > open in new window, it opens the page as expected. The front end is working fine.

Just a thought Ingo/Sean... could you maybe send me a working vanilla install of the scripts and db and i'll see if errors still occurs? Alternatively, I could give you FTP access to my server to upload...

Maybe we do it the other way around? You send me a ZIP of your working copy of SS, to ingo at silverstripe dot com.
In addition, it would be good to get web access to your local server, via dyndns or a similar service. -

More than happy to try and sort this out. My colleague here has installed WAMP 2.2 on 64bit Windows 7 with no problems.
My version is installed on my development machine. More than happy to run a Mikogo session with you so you can see the error. I am in Dunedin so anytime today (except 11:00 - 13:00) is fine with me.

I've figured it out... the .tar file isn't unzipping correctly. It failed on both IzArc and WinZip, so i installed 7-zip and now the latest version 3.0.3 works.
