Hi, I'm new to this and have very little technical knowledge so please be gentle!

I'm attempting to install SilverStripe. All my settings seem ok except for a warning saying .htaccess needs to be writable. I couldn't see it on the server so found a forum that stated how to make one in windows (text file called htaccess.txt, then rename it on the server to .htaccess). As soon as I rename it, the files seems to disappear, but if I go to upload it again, I get an overwrite request.

The problem is, if I can't see it, how can I change it's write properties?

Hope somebody can help!

OK, I realised my stupidity just as I sent the last message - I changed the permissions BEFORE I changed the filename - sorry to waste your time!
