New look SilverStripe websites launched

SilverStripe is both the name for our free software as well as our company, so we've recently relaunched our website to make it easier to learn about the two different interests. silverstripe.com is now the home for the company, and silverstripe.org is the new home for our software and the open source community! We did this because you asked us to - read Brian's blog post to learn more.

SilverStripe forums reorganised

We've been studying the usage of our free support forums because they had outgrown their original structure. We've now archived old discussions and opened up a new set of useful categories that will make it easier for you to ask and answer questions!

SilverStripe 2.3.0 release candidate available

1600 improvements are currently incorporated in our upcoming release, SilverStripe 2.3.0. Example improvements include page caching, increased CMS customisability, and support for installation on the Windows IIS server.

We've issued two candidate releases to allow you to download, test, and file bug reports to us. As soon as we're confident that the release is stable, and that there is a smooth process to upgrade from version 2.2.3, this will be deemed our stable release!

SilverStripe gets Melbourne moving

MetlinkMelbourne.com.au homepageSilverStripe has given public transport users in Melbourne an early Christmas present! With millions of page views each month, metlinkmelbourne.com.au is on par with Sydney's cityrail.info as Australia's most popular online sources of tram, train, and bus timetables and journey planning. We worked with the Metlink team since September, and the new site went live on Sunday.

Stephen Franklin, Metlink's website manager says "the SilverStripe CMS is already providing faster page load times and with less servers, and the CMS lets Metlink staff publish news and route changes more quickly than before. We moved to the SilverStripe platform on the basis that would make it quicker and cheaper to add  new functionality in 2009, like real-time arrival information and better online maps. We're already confident of this, given the migration completed ahead of schedule!"

Christmas shutdown period

The SilverStripe company closes for the year this Friday the 19th December. We resume on Monday 5th January.

Any sales and support enquiries will be queued over this period and responded to when we resume normal hours.

Help.us/with/nested-URLs/feature!

We are often asked when SilverStripe will offer support for nested URLs. This feature is useful for sites with many pages, especially where sections of a website have identically named pages like yoursite.com/offices/newyork/staff and yoursite.com/offices/london/staff. Andrew Short, one of our esteemed open source developers in Australia, has been making some good progress on this feature: skilled developers can trial the functionality built so far.

  • We are keen to hear from companies who might like to support Andrew and our team in completing the feature.

Thanks for a big 2008!

SilverStripe Staff December 2008

We'd like to extend a massive thank you to our customers and to our open source community! You've helped us win awards, be a part of major websites, given us huge amounts of useful feedback and code, and shown us that open source and a focus on usability and code elegance are the right things to do!

We hope you have a good rest over the new year and that together we can make 2009 an even bigger year!
