Thanks for your response, I have spent quite a while trying to workout what is going on without any results...

There were problems with the export to csv, but I couldn't reproduce that right away (maybe it was in 2.3.5 and fixed now?).

the issue I see over and again relates to validation, I have prepared a full description of this and attached it to this post... basically when a field fails validation the screen resets itself to the welcome screen instead of leaving you on the record edit screen with he validation error feedback... this is within 2.3.6 and across browsers (ie/chrome/ff)

Thank you Willr for your helpful response - Sphinx does look very promising. I shall recommend we upgrade my current project to 2.4 when there is a stable version so that we can use it. However, as someone else has already commented in the forum, the documentation will need to be improved if it is to be understandable to any but advanced SilverStripe developers - dataObject decorators is fairly advanced stuff.

What I meant is that we have a lot of pagetypes we have developed ourselves and significant site content goes in fields other than $Content, so it is stored in tables other than SiteTree. Currently these aren't included in the search, although there do seem to be some hooks in the code to allow future development to pass an array of searchable tables. Currently all you can do is remove SiteTree or Files. I would like to be able to define a list of tables(pagetypes) and preferably columns that are included in the search. Perhaps it could be set when the SiteSearchForm is instantiated in a redeveloped version of method classesToSearch.

I have also found that the documentation on the search isn't as comprehensive as it might be - there is no mention of it searching the Files table there or the public method SearchForm->classesToSearch. It would be helpful to all if it is revised.

Hmm funny I had backported some of the bugfixes for ModelAdmin to 2.3 so if you could clarify what major bugs you are encountering that would be good. Then at least branches/2.3 is stable.

Next beta / rc release is due very soon. Then I guess it will be a few weeks, maybe up to a month after that next release before an official stable. Though we have been running 2.4 for a while so you might be looking to upgrade to the next beta / rc since the API should have been locked down by then.

For site search I recommend you trying out the sphinx search module. Sphinx is a much more robust searching tool and that does have support for file contents searching.

What do you mean about configurable pagetype tables? Could you clarify that.

As for general enhancements probably the best way to make requests is to open specific enhancement tickets on open.silverstripe.org. Note that vague requests will probably be marked as invalid and removed / ignored since that helps no one. If someone things that that request is stupid and/or would not be suitable for core inclusion it will probably be closed too (protip - check there isn't a ticket relating to this issue before making a new one)

If you want to talk about major changes / enhancements I guess the devs google group is another place to gather feedback.

Is there somewhere to post feature requests?

Is there somewhere we can post requests for future features in Silverstripe - I haven't found anywhere.

I would like to request a major overhaul of the site search, with searchable assets(file contents) and configurable pagetype tables/columns, as I think the current search feature really lets the product down and is important for enterprise level sites.

Taffy thank you very much for the link, I have been watching this over the last couple of months. Unfortunately it still doesn't give me an idea when I might expect to be able to rely on the 2.4 platform. This is critically important as Model Admin seems very unstable before 2.4... in the time I have left for my project I need to either know I can use 2.4 or make 2.3.6 ModelAdmin work without issue

I have to say the book absolutely excellent. I was expecting to find the English version littered with translation oddities, nut it's not. It reminds me of the old Wrox style writing - accurate, pleasant to read, good for reference, and complete. I would well recommend it to any developer.

Having developed for wordpress quite a bit, I have to question its status as "best" open source CMS. Its pretty easy to use, and has loads of plugins, but it's not particularly intuitive if you have a site with over 10 or so pages.

Silverstripe is way more user friendly!

FYI The root cause was a change in the way you decorate LeftAndMain subclasses.

You were able to use DataObjectDecorator, but since 2.3.3 (I think?) you use LeftAndMainDecorator.

Hey Yakiv, no live testing / sandbox currently. The functionality for the job board is still lacking for one of that scale - it currently has no searching ability, no filtering by type etc which would make having more then 10 jobs at a time a bit of a pain. I'll add searching / filtering when it becomes an issue!.

Do you have a testing / sandbox area (subdomain) for your jobs posting mod / site? How does your module look with thousands of job postings? I am curious to see how it would all look, full-blown.

Hey All,

I've noticed a few people posting jobs on the forum I thought it would be more useful if there was a dedicated SilverStripe Job Board so I had a bit of a play and launched this http://jobs.silverstripehq.com/.

As a note this is *not* affiliated with SilverStripe Ltd but its a little side project of mine that's hopefully going to be useful for people looking for developers and even developers looking for work!. So your logins from the forum / wiki will not work over there.

Would love to hear your feedback and if you think it will be useful!. The code powering the job board will be released as a jobboard module accordingly as well

Thank you, banal, for replying with the information. ...It would be helpful, if plugins that either do not work anymore or are part of some other improved plugin, would be removed from the SVN and from the downloads section.

I also think it would be good if the plugins would be better organized, with matching versions per release. I know that some plugins were developed strictly for 2.4 and are not available for 2.3.4. But, some plugins should really have two development branches (for now) for 2.3.x and 2.4, or at least be backwards compatible (which is not always possible).

The HasManyFileManager (or filemanager) is not compatible with SilverStripe Versions 2.3.2 and newer. I stopped to further develop this module, since the DataObjectManager provides the same (and more) functionality.

Aha. I fixed it. I found this CustomScriptInit specifically in the filemanager mod and nowhere else. So, I deleted this mod, did anoter db/build, refreshed my admin and now it loads! ...So, it appears that it is the filemanager that is not compatible.

I just did an installation, with the following modules (downloaded from the extensions area of the web-site, not from SVN):

blog, dataobject_manager, diary, ecommerce, embargoexpiry, event_calendar, filemanager, forum, gallery, genericdataadmin, multiform, polls, and userforms

I am on a Linux VPS, with an installation to a subdomain. The installation appeared to go well. The front-end looks fine. However, when going to the /admin/ area, I saw the following and I am hoping for some help (maybe one of the modules is not compatible?):

Hi there,

Nested URL support is only in 2.4.0 alpha 1. 2.3.4 is a point release, there are no new features but bugfixes to the 2.3 branch of SilverStripe.
