Installation 101

We recommend installation be performed by a developer.

  1. Choose your preferred way of getting hold of the code and place it on your local or hosted server. The root of your domain (e.g. is usually the best place.
  2. Open your web browser and visit the URL of the newly placed files (e.g. or localhost/foldername/ if stored locally). You should now see the SilverStripe installer welcome screen in your browser.
  3. Follow the prompts and you will be asked to input your database configuration, administrative details and other configuration settings.
  4. When complete you may sign-in and start using SilverStripe. Return to anytime thereafter to sign-in.

System requirements

Requires Apache/IIS, PHP, MySQL (see instructions for using PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server as your database). If you’re installing to your computer you will need to install a server environment, try MAMP or WAMP. For more info go to server requirements.

Development builds

Development releases are less stable containing features for future versions. Pre-releases allow testing of a new versions potential features before a stable release. For information about our previous releases see the security releases, changelog and release archive.
