Adding a new tag & button (div variant containing pullquote and cite) to TinyMCE?

Hi there,
I'm trying to figure out how to append a new tag / button combo to TinyMCE--a div+p+cite combo which will contain content for a pullquote. I've parsed through editor_plugin_src.js, LeftAndMain.php and HTMLEditorConfig.php, but I'm still stymied. I fear my javascript skills aren't entirely up to the task. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to get started?
