2.3.2 Can Easily Stop Running -- White screen

Hello, I've recently upgraded to 2.3.2 and am trying to play around with a modification to a new page class. When I make the change, I run dev/build which seems to work. Yet when I try to run the CMS to create a new page based upon this new page class type, something goes wrong. The entire site stops running both on the public and CMS side (I just get a white screen). I've tried editing mysite/_config.php to invoke dev mode to see the errors, but even that change seems to cause the site to stop running.
Is there anything obvious to look at when my site stops running? I literally cannot get things to work again unless I remove the altered file entirely and then re-run dev/build. It's next to impossible to debug, so I am frustrated that I can't make any progress.
Thanks in advance for any ideas/suggestions.
