PLAIN theme

I recently decided to go for Silverstripe and for my first attempt had the PLAIN theme loaded for me. I have stumbled though at trying to have Children pages as although I can place them and Save then Publish - when I go to view the published website they do not appear? Is this because somewhere in the PLAIN Theme code, it only allows one level? Please advise. Regards Ray S.
