Hi

I've stuck my head into the SilverStripe.org website from time to time to see how this awesome CMS is developing, and I really like what I see (I've even made it to a Silverstripe meetup in both London and Wellington). However, one thing that struck me today on my latest visit, was that the themes gallery is relatively empty of fresh new ideas for themes.

For example, in the last 3 years, it would appear that only 8 new themes have been listed! Especially since v3 is now out, it would be great to see more new themes springing up that are fully compatible and make the most of the platform.

Of course there might be HEAPS of the older themes that are already fully up-to-date, but it is hard to tell, as there is no way to sort the themes by when they were last edited. There is also no way to sort them by version compatibility. Also having some sort of star rating would also be useful there to see which are the popular and well constructed themes as voted by the community. Those three items would really help improve the current themes gallery in my opinion.

Those gallery improvements aside, there are still too few recent themes in the gallery. That is when I had an idea that maybe Silverstripe could possibly run a "Theme Contest" of some description to encourage designers to submit some fresh new quality themes as a showcase of what Silverstripe v3 can do now in all its glory. The end result could be a heap of new themes for the gallery which is great for Silverstripe and the community (especially new comers as a place to start and get tweaking). The designers themselves would get some exposure through their featured themes, and one or more lucky winners could get a prize of some sort.

What do others think?

Sounds like a good idea to me!
