Broken Themes?

I'm running SilverStripe 3.0.3. I installed decayed and dark ritual themes, and they both broke my site. Even tutorial theme broke my site. It seems simple is the only theme that works.

Elaboration on "broke my site": All three themes mentioned above result in a blue bar across the top of the page wherein resides the name of the page. The only other item on the page is the content of the page itself. And that, in decayed and dark ritual, is invisible until one reverses the color of the text by selecting the text. Gone are the links to the other pages. dark ritual displayed none of the fancy images it shows in its example thumbnails. decayed shows the skull and cross-bones, but it's cut off--more so than in the example thumbnails. tutorial just made the site ugly, but also took away all links to other pages.

I really like the simple theme that came with SilverStripe, but the owner of the site wants something fancier. Are these themes just broken in SilverStripe 3.0.3? Am I doing something wrong? I am, obviously, a complete n00b to SilverStripe.

Thanks!

Yes most themes were written for 2.2 so 3.0 has broken the majority of them. Most are simple quick fixes to do

Thanks for that. I made some changes, mainly changing control expressions to with expressions. Seems to have had no effect. Any other ideas?

If you put the site into devmode you should see the actual error message. Remember the tutorial, make sure you flush=1 after editing templates.

Awesome! I put it into dev mode, added /?flush=1, and saw errors! I hadn't uploaded all the theme files, e.g. for e-commerce, blogs, etc. My site doesn't need any of that. So I uploaded all the theme files. Then I got no errors. The themes display correctly, except they now still don't display my content, i.e. my menu of pages, my page content, etc. Instead, the menus are empty, and the faux Latin text displays. Any ideas on that?

Thank you so much for your help!
