In my project in one or two pages I was thinking of adding tabs.
Traditionally I would have used javascript and html done the job but then I was wondering if I can use the inbuild SS tab engine to write minimal HTML for content and generate TABs.

This for the front end? I would suggest you just do it the normal way as the tabbing stuff is pretty tied to the CMS backend I would have thought. Then again the login box is tabbed so you might like to check that out
Yes I was think about front end ... then use some CSS for looks.
I wanted to look into it ... but currently caught up in migration to 2.3
