How straightforward is upgrade from 2.3.7 to 2.4(.1)?

We have a site that was straightforward to upgrade from 2.3.4 to 2.3.7, which we'd like to continue on to 2.4.1.
Is this fairly simple, and is there a recommended method of doing so? Looking through the forums indicates it may not be as simple as the previous upgrades, and we'd like to know what we're in for. We first have to work out why SilverStripe is causing RAM and CPU usage to spiral out of control, and once this is done an upgrade is the next step.
Any help gratefully appreciated.

There is an upgrading to 2.4 doc which is a useful reference - doc.silverstripe.org/upgrading:2.4.0
