Wellington's June Meetup

Thanks to everyone who came along to our June meetup in Wellington. We hope you enjoyed your well-deserved beer and learnt a thing or two! We were treated to two excellent talks from Sam Minnée and John Milmine. Here's a quick rundown of what they spoke about, with slides and videos for those of you who weren't able to make it.

Sam Minnée

SilverStripe CEO Sam Minnée spoke about the technical improvements being made to the ORM in SilverStripe CMS 3, explaining how it will improve performance and reduce the code needed to get information in and out of your database.

SilverStripe's New ORM

John Milmine

John Milmine, Developer at well-known Wellington web agency DNA, gave an insightful presentation on how to make your SilverStripe site quicker with a variety of performance tasks to do with Javascript, CSS, SilverStripe templates, and the Apache webserver.

  • I was really excited to hear SilverStripe CEO Sam Minnée speak about the technical improvements being made to the ORM in SilverStripe CMS 3. Its ability to improve performance and reduce the code needed to get information in and out of your database is fantastic news for technology! I can't wait to see where this takes us in the software and web application industries.

  • Exited about watching the videos I was going to watch them on my iPad, only to find out that you'd embedded the Flash version. Later I found out that Vimeo offers an HTML5 version, so a little link on the website for non-flash enabled devices would make other iPad/iPhone users a lot more happy :)
