if you view the assets folder on your server via FTP or SSH etc are the files listed there?
Images are not showing for me either. I get this error when i attempt to view the page:
XML Parsing Error: mismatched tag. Expected: </table>.
Location: http://www.vasfamily.net/cms/photo-gallery/
Line Number 143, Column 8: </tr>
------------------------------------------^
The folder permissions are also set to 777
have run /db/build/ & ?flush=1
Yes they are showen in the ftp access I had to upload them there because the upload feature seemed to take an age and ftp was faster.
I have even put the images in the folder (via ftp) that I had created in the upload feature but they are also not showing
I also get the xml error when I add the "Sliverstripe" image into my site as a test

I had the same parsing error using 2.2.2-rc2 when I added the image by dragging it into the Content field.
I then tried adding the same image using the "Insert Image" button (no dragging). No error :).
I also noticed that the resulting img tag has a lot of "null" attribute values:
<img class="left" src="assets/Uploads/pr.1-2.gif?r=65113"
title="null" hspace="null" vspace="null" width="200" height="115"
align="null" />
Billy
I can confirm that the same thing is happening here.
upload from the content editor works but not from asset management.

If you're using the latest rc version, it is a known bug
