I've just downloaded SilverStripe, and as I am new to cms's, I have been trying to follow the beginners tutorial. I am able to open http://localhost:3000/admin/ however I am not able to open any of the ss or php files to edit.

Help?

however I am not able to open any of the ss or php files to edit.

SS or PHP files should open fine in any text editor like NotePad if you are on windows or TextEdit if you are on mac. If you are on windows just right click the file and click open. If you have never opened a SS file before Windows doesn't know what editor to use. So if you right click that file and you get a Popup with "Windows cannot open this file" select the "Select the program from a list" option and select NotePad or you normal Text editor.

If you are on a mac you can right click and go Open With... and select your text editor.
