Im having a problem with SS adding title="undefined" to all images entered in the cms and as a result of this when the user hovers there mouse over the image instead of the alt text being dislpayed the text "undefined" (contained in the title attribute) instead. Does anyone know a solution for this problem.

Do you have an extra field in the page type for that title/alt? or you just use $Title?
I think andy managed to get the fix for this into 2.2.2 a week or so ago - have a look at http://open.silverstripe.com/changeset?new=60033%40modules%2Fjsparty%2Fbranches%2F2.2%2Ftiny_mce_improvements.js&old=58624%40modules%2Fjsparty%2Fbranches%2F2.2%2Ftiny_mce_improvements.js for what you should do to make it work in your version.
This is will be part of 2.2.3 so when you upgrade you should have no problems
