Hi Melbtrip,
I would start by looking at the Modules section of the Silverstripe.org site.
They have a bunch of useful Modules to use which code do what you are asking.
I have taken a look for you and found a slideshow module you could use.

It may take a bit of tweaking to get it to the size you want, but shouldn't be all that difficult to piece together.
