Hello! I want to move from my own CMS to open-source... for long run.
Well and I have some expirience with TYPO 3, but it overkill for my current task, I think.
After some research I got this list: Drupal, MODx, Typolight, Silver Stripe.
Drupal and MODx was dropped today after some more discussions (and yes I don't like PHP 4).
I have TL and SS in the competition list now and if I'll fail with CMS, I will turn to Zend Framework (not CMS).

So question is - can I make site with SS... I mean make it without a lot of additional coding and hacks.

Site is some professional community "portal" with video content.
Something like: http://www.11secondclub.com/, http://www.animationmentor.com/
But simpler :)
And on Russian.

It has registered members (uploads, comments) and registered guests (no uploads, just comments).
Members can upload site content (video files) into several categories.
Tag cloud needed.
Site users can browse content by categories, watch and vote.
Site main team (several people) can publish blogs with comments.
No anonimous comments. Spam protection.
List of members (ABC + pager).
Profile page for member.
Password reminder by e-mail.
External forum script (I think, SMF).

What do you think?
Is it SS proper solution for such site or not?
Thank you for help!!

This is certainly possibly with SilverStripe, and it would take a fair amount of code. SS get you up and running quickly, but I'm not sure what your long term plans are.

Have a look at the tutorials and see if you feel comfortable with SS:
