Silverstripe for small community website

Hi all. I am new to Silverstripe and still finding my way through the cms and sapphire.

I wonder would SS be good idea to power small community website or I should be better off with more 'dedicated' solutions?

What I need is few 'static' pages, forum, contact page and event calendar. Nothing too fancy, few hundred members or so.

Also front page should contain mini event calendar, and other standard stuff, like latest registered users (preferably with pictures), number of people online, etc.

Any ideas and/or suggestions very much appreciated.
