SilverStripe 2.4.7

I'm getting very confused with the whole validation thing in SilverStripe. I've tried implementing what these posts talk about.

But even the basic getCMSValidator function doesn't seem to work for me. Am I missing something? I wanted to apply validation to dataobjects which are managed through DataObjectManager but can't seem to find anything about that.

This was one of the reasons why i never used DOM.
The other one was that the htmleditorfield was not running in the popup of DOM.
So i always used modeladmin.

It seems a strange thing to be overlooked. I wonder if SS 3 has a new and improved version. If not it would be worth looking into I think. I like the other features of DOM but this is a definite stumbling block.
