How to strip html/links from latest news and search?

When I make a news entry (ArticlePage) on my site, the Latest News preview snippet paragraph on the front page of my site will show (in brackets) any html links that happen to be in that article. This looks really ugly and breaks the page since the links to other sites are often long. How can I strip this out? Thanks.
