My silverstripe version is 3.0.1. And my hosting provider is moving from 5.3. to 5.6.
The frontend is ok, works good. But the backend simply does nothing.
Is there any other solution than update the cms?

Personally I would check the error logs on the server in case it is related to some other issue first of all.
3.0.1 is a old version so it is possible that it relies of features which would have been deprecated in 5.6.
The info I could find relating to SilverStripe 3.0.1 does not mention it's end of life but it is no longer maintained so I would imagine the end of life is not too far off.
I would suggest just upgrading to a newer version because fixing it will be a uphill battle of unsupported bugfixes.
