Hi, before i have made this post i have done several hours of research via older threads in these forums about the same matter and also have been in contact with Hostgator support.

Im trying to solve SS urls problem after an install on hostgator by enabling mod_rewrite via .htaccess (this is how it has to be done with Hostgator), before the install could commence i was warned mod_rewrite wasnt enabled by the SS installer, so enabled it in .htaccess, it still said it wasnt enabled but at this point i ignored it (as pointed out in another forum thread) and carried on with the install.

Everything installed ok, but the mod_rewrite problem persists, hostgator docs state that .htaccess should contain:

RewriteEngine On

which it does, searching through Hostgator support it says (unsupported i might add, but via forum help posts) move .htaccess up one folder from web root when on a fastCGI server (which i am), and still no change in how the urls look, example: http://174.121.0.35/~wwwkevin/index.php/contact-us/
Does anybody have a working example of a hostgator .htaccess i can look at + its actual location that it needs to be placed into, seems strange to me that it needs placing one folder above web root (but that make no difference right now as no matter where it goes mod_rewrite isnt appearing to work)

regards
